Council Member Vanessa L. Gibson was elected in November 2017, to serve a second term of four years as a Member of the New York City Council. She proudly represents the communities of Claremont, Claremont Village, Concourse, Highbridge, Morris Heights and Morrisania in the west Bronx. Council Member Gibson was the first woman and person of color to Chair the influential Committee on Public Safety, which works closely with the NYPD, District Attorneys and Mayor’s Criminal Justice Director. Council Member Gibson has been a leader on criminal justice reform, school discipline, fought for Summer Youth jobs, funding for food pantries, domestic violence victims, and helped to establish the first ever Mayor’s Office to Prevent Gun Violence.
